ROOM: A Sketchbook for Analytic Action, is devoted to transformative community action through the interdisciplinary power of psychoanalysis, poetry, and art.

ROOM was launched as an interdisciplinary reponse to a bewildering and frightening reality immediately following the 2016 US presidential election. For over three years ROOM has shed light on the effect that politics and culture have on our psychology and the effect that our psychic reality has on the world. The essays, poetry, art, published in ROOM exist in our living website as artifacts of our rapidly changing political landscape.

ROOM’s impact, like the therapeutic action of psychoanalysis, occurs through the power we have to connect to each other and to connect what lies under the surface.

Our task is huge. We are committed to publishing ROOM three times a year. We are committed to our transformative mission. But the success of our mission has only been possible through the tax-deductible donations of ROOM’s readers along with hundreds of hours of volunteer work by the entire ROOM team. Creating a magazine takes time and money. Please help us to continue to make ROOM possible. No amount is too small; everything is deeply appreciated and needed.
